Bars, restaurants, high street shops, hair salons, or even just strolling through the streets with your cherished furry companion, wherever you go you can expect them to be showered with affection by the warmhearted locals who absolutely adore dogs.
In Italy, dogs are truly part of the family, and Florence is no exception. Italy is home to around ten million dogs, and they are treasured as loyal companions. Many Italians take their dogs everywhere, from cafés to boutiques, showing how deeply embedded canine companionship is in their culture. It is not uncommon for dogs to be offered water bowls or even small treats when visiting public places, such is the warmth extended to our four legged friends.

I have honestly never experienced anything quite like life in Florence, where walking around with your dog means an endless stream of smiles, kind words, and extra attention from people who genuinely delight in making your pet feel special.
The only downside is if I have settled Daisy dog in a lovely restaurant or local bar and finally started our delicious meal (feeling all relaxed) with her lying down and taking it easy, until the dog loving waiter comes and gives her some her a slice of beef or just some passing love and she immediately gets all giddy again - and the whole process of chilling her out starts over whilst my food goes cold!

Florence encapsulates the Italian spirit of affection and inclusion, extending not just to us as new residents but to their beloved pets as well. If you love dogs, this is a place where you and your pup will feel right at home.

Fortunata (lucky) Daisy!
